Truck Model Kits

Whatever truck you are looking to add to your model collection, there is likely one on the market for you to purchase. Model truck kits come in a variety of materials, including wood, plastic, metal, and others.

One of the best-known model truck fabricators is AMT, or Aluminum Metal Toys. AMT started manufacturing model trucks in the 1960s with its first kit, the "Dirt Hauler." Then, in 1969, the company released "California Hauler 359," which was revolutionary because the design copied the manufacturer's specifications to a tee. It was a realistic-looking Peterbilt truck with a diesel engine under the hood. AMT continued to issue popular truck kits through 1981. Many of these popular vintage truck kits can be found for sale on eBay or in antique stores. Today's model truck kits can be found in several online stores and in hobby stores across the nation.

All sorts of trucks are represented in today's model truck market, including pickups, hauling and towing trucks, custom pickups, and even military/utility vehicles. When you are a beginner, or if you are teaching your own child how to assemble model trucks, it is best to start with the snap-together plastic models, which are the easiest to assemble. Then move on to the more complex plastic truck models, and later, metal or vintage models.
